The Key to Happiness… or is it?

I saw this on Pinterest:

I wonder what C.S. Lewis had in mind when he wrote this quote.  As far as I know, you can lose anything you once had.  You can fall out of love or “lose” it.  You can lose your friend, spouse, child… any person really.  You can lose money, your reputation, arms and legs, your land, your pride, joy, faith.  You can even lose sight of who you are.  So what is it that our happiness should depend on?  What’s your magical answer Mr. Lewis?

  1. You can lose sight of who you are, but you can never lose yourself, your mind. If you do, happiness doesn’t really apply. Your happiness depends on your mind. Knowing him, that is not what he meant, I just thought I’d throw out a bit of reality for you…

    • I suppose what I mean by losing yourself is you lose sight of who you are by changing who you are to conform to a social standard. Such as homosexuals may lose sight of who they are because our country keeps trying to suppress their desires to marry and doesn’t support their involvement in the military, just because they’re gay.

Or it could mean losing your mind. My mother has lost her mind. She’s crazy, and she is making her life miserable because of it. Also, alzheimers. My grandmother had it. There is no happiness with alzheimers.
